I FINNALY GOT INTO THE COAST GUARD AFTER 17 MONTHS. YOU NEED A 45 ON THE ASVAB TO QUALIFY BUT THEY WONT TAKE YOU UNLESS YOU SCORE ABOVE A 65. I ALSO AM IN GOOD SHAPE AND NO CRIMINAL RECORD. I ALSO HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE AND IT TOOK ME THAT LONG TO GET IN. I WISH YOU LUCK BUT THEY ONLY TAKE ABOUT 70 PEOPLE A YEAR FROM EACH STATE.

It depends on what you wanna do within the Coast Guard. For example, its extremely difficult to become a rescue swimmer. Other MOSs are easier to get in to.

Think about it. The total number of officers and enlisted in the Coast Guard is less than the number of uniformed police on the streets of New York City. That’s less than 40 thousand personnel. Even with three operations going on, there has never been a month since the attack on America of September 11, 2001 where the number of Coast Guard Reservists who have been activated is anywhere near one thousand. So, you are talking about a very small force with a high rate of retention. Talk to a Coast Guard recruiter. Get the numbers. That way you can plan better.

Best thing you can do right now is go take the test (asvab and physical) this way you’ll know for sure if you even qualify plus you’ll get your name on the list quicker. GOOD LUCK!
