Obamacare, or the Affordable Healthcare Act mandates people to get covered by insurance. They can get it from their employer, or get insurance of their own. You can choose what insurance package you want.
In the UK, everyone has to pay for the NHS. If you want, you can take out private insurance as well.
In Canada, you have no ability to pay for private insurance.
The system that Obama wants to bring in is not based on the healthcare systems in the UK or Canada, but is similar to the systems that are in place in Switzerland, Taiwan and Holland, where when the reforms were put in place, it lowered healthcare costs.
Obamacare as teabaggers like to call it, doesnt get rid of private market Health insurance, and it doesnt cover everyone.
In pretty much every other industrial nation, and many others, they have a single payer system that covers everyone equally. You get sick, you just goto the doctor and get help. The US healthcare system is damn near the worst in the world, unless you are wealthy.
Health Care costs over double per capita in the US than Canada.
obama says it can work thats what is different
We aren’t taxed near as much as they are. Of course that may change but presently Obama wants to operate a similiar plan but w/o all of the tax increases.
Not sure how that can happen.
Remember, Canadians pay a lot more at the pump just to support their Universal Health Care.
I would imagine something like that could happen here – either on gas, cigarettes, alcohol, food, etc.
it’s not it will be a failure just like the fore mentioned countries month of waiting for procedures panels deciding if you get the care you and the dr want
In Canada, the government pays all medical bills. This is the same as Medicare in the US, and is called "single-payer."
In the UK the government pays all medical bills and also runs the hospitals and employs the staff. This is like the VA, and is "socialized medicine."
The Affordable Care Act retains private insurance, makes it illegal for insurers to refuse you or drop you because you’re sick, mandates minimum coverages, forces everyone to buy insurance through exchanges, subsidizes it for the poor, and a whole bunch of less-important provisions.,
It’s actually very different. Keep in mind though that Canada and UK healthcare are completely different as well.
One major difference though is Canada and UK didnt have a load of pork and earmarks thrown in when they introduced there national healthcare.
For instance, if you read the UK and Canada healthcare plan as it was implemented, it is actually less than 100 pages(today it is hundreds of thousands due to various changes)
While Obamacare, it is thousands of pages of things completely unrelated to healthcare(such as 100 million to a South Korean tire company)
Canada has a single payer system that works like Medicare, but covers everyone not just old people.
The government runs the health care system in the UK and heath care workers including doctors are government employee, It is like a giant HMO
Obama care requires everyone to buy health insurance and the government will pay the amount it cost in excess of about 5% of your income if your employer does not insure you at your job.
"Obamacare" does not cover everyone. People are left out, still.
Universal Health Care in other countries such as Canada and England gives coverage to everyone and it is paid for simply out of their taxes. The key, however, is that the health care costs are "capped" by the government and there is no middle man as we have in this country (insurance companies). Pharmaceutical prices are capped as well. Tax dollars pay for the health care in Canada and England and it is tenable because the costs are not exhorbitant like they are here. Hospitals in Canada and England do not even have "billing depts" because there are no bills. Do you know how much that would take off the top of our costs alone? we have so much overhead and red tape with the insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies getting rich all along the way. Doesn’t happen elsewhere…. Obamacare tried to do something like that with the "government optio’ but because the republicans are in the pockets of insurance companies…they banded together and prevented it from happening. thus we are stuck with the most expensive health care in the world and not the best. It is sad.
The similarity might be the goal of having every person insured so every person can have medical care. The Health Care Act is still based on private insurance companies paying for health care with a tax credit from the government when you purchase insurance from the exchange in 2014. There are provisions to be implemented over 10 years. I dont know how the Canadian system works. The only U.S. government run care system is the VA and the military.
I dont know what part of the Health Care Act you are asking about.
